Monitoring Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Acari: Acaridae) with Traps in Dry-Cured Ham Aging Rooms

With methyl bromide being phased out as the standard fumigant, effective monitoring became the foundation of integrated pest management for the ham mite. This study tracked mite activity over time and space using food-baited traps in five aging rooms across three commercial ham-processing facilities with differing fumigation schedules. Trap counts typically showed a sharp decline after fumigation followed by a steady increase until the next treatment, providing a practical basis for monitoring-driven pest management decisions.
