
Susceptibility of the Life Stages of Cigarette Beetle, Lasioderma serricorne (F.) (Coleoptera: Anobiidae) to Ozone

The ban of methyl bromide has driven the search for alternative stored-product pest control methods. This study determined concentration-mortality and time-mortality relationships for cigarette beetle life stages exposed to ozone at 100–400 ppm. Larvae were the most tolerant and adults the least tolerant life stage in the absence of food, while eggs and pupae were the most and least tolerant, respectively, when food was present. The results suggest ozone is a viable alternative for managing all life stages of this pest.
